INTRA-OPERATIVE NEUROMONITORING

The Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Program at East-West University is an innovative addition to the University’s repertoire of unique healthcare electroneurodiagnostic programs. The curriculum includes an in-depth study of the anatomy and physiology of the central and peripheral nervous systems as it pertains to various Intraoperative Neuromonitoring modalities as well as the theoretical and technical aspects of normal and abnormal evoked potentials used during surgical applications. The curriculum also includes discussion of the theory and practice of other modalities used in Intraoperative Neuromonitoring including motor evoked potentials, cranial nerve neuromonitoring, brain mapping, and deep brain stimulation.

The effect of anesthesia on neurophysiology and electrophysiological recordings will also be covered as well as operating room protocol, professionalism, medical ethics, patient safety, and documentation. Students are taught in preparation for Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring Certificate examinations given by the American Board for the Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists.
