Holabird & Root Architect Rusty Walker Speaks on Form and Function in Education
CHICAGO-- Chicago architect Rusty Walker will present a lecture titled “The Vertical Quadrangle: The Intersection of Architecture and Education ” on Tues. Oct. 16, 2012. The lecture is part of the East-West Perspectives series in the Fourth Floor Auditorium at East-West University, 816 S. Michigan Ave., in Chicago. The free event is open to the public and begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the lecture at 7:00 p.m.
Rusty Walker is an Associate Principal with Holabird & Root where he specializes in design and programming of higher education projects. His expertise in planning and designing learning environments combined with his artistic sensitivity has resulted in exceptional spaces for education clients throughout the world.
Mr. Walker’s higher education projects include campus master plans at Western Illinois University Quad Cities, NYU Abu Dhabi, University of Sacramento, and Drake University. His campus building designs have included East-West University’s Student Life Center, the classroom building at Waubonsee Community College Plano, and the University of California - San Diego Residence Hall. Mr. Walker has also produced designs for the Chicago Housing Authority Town Center Master Plan, the Chicago Housing Authority Kenmore Apartments Renovation (seeking LEED Platinum rating), Qatar Broadcasting Services Complex in Doha, Qatar, and the Antilla Ambani residence in Mumbai, India.
Mr. Walker received his B.S. in Architecture from Northeastern University in Boston, and a Master in Architecture from Rice University. His 19 years of experience in practice includes professional accreditation in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and two years as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the College of Architectureand the Arts at The University of Illinois at Chicago.
East-West Perspectives is a series of monthly lectures hosted by East-West University. All events are free, and are held on the third Tuesday of every month from January to March, October and November. The April and May events are held on the third Wednesday of the month.
